What Makes a Good Case for an iPad Pro as a Digital Artist?

As a digital artist and illustrator who uses an iPad Pro regularly for drawing work having a good protective case for the iPad Pro is a must. An iPad Pro is an investment and tool that needs to be taken care of, it’s not like your pencils or brushes that if you drop on the ground it doesn’t matter. There is nothing worse than a cracked screen or at worst a completely broken iPad.

The things that I looked for in a protective case as an illustrator for my iPad Pro were something that wasn’t too bulky but gave solid protection when travelling and for day-to-day use.

Finer Considerations for iPad Pro Case

  • Overall protection when closed and open
  • How the protective iPad case would store the pencil
  • Ease of opening to start drawing and using while drawing
  • What it feels like when drawing and carrying
  • Options for different viewing and drawing angle support

Switched from Otterbox to ZUGU iPad Pro 12.9 Case

So I have recently just bought my 2nd Ipad Pro and needed a protective case for it. On my first iPad after researching I bought an Otterbox Symmetry Series 360.

The main reason for having to upgrade my iPad was the mistake of only buying 64GB of space thinking that would be enough. As an illustrator who has ventured into animation and 3D modelling on the iPad, the storge has to be cooked. Having to delete files and save them on another storage device wasn’t that practical in the end for me.

Otterbox Symmetry Series 360 Elite

On my first iPad Pro (3rd generation), I bought an Otterbox Symmetry Series 360 cover which I have been pretty happy with. After using it for about 3 years there are some things that were not ideal. But anyway, for my new iPad, I thought I would just buy another Otterbox.

My assumption was that I would be getting the same case design but for the 5th and 6th gen iPad Pros the protective cover design and material had changed. The new Otterbox Symmetry Series 360 Elite case was different materials and instead of the flap that would fold over the pencil to hold it in place it had this quirky pencil draw that felt flimsy. After reading some reviews some users had issues with it and I could relate.

Anyway, that sent me down the rabbit hole of looking for a new case. But now I am glad it did with the new case I bought, the ZUGU Ultra Slim Protective Cover (it’s not that slim but not super bulky).

ZUGU Ultra Slim Protective Cover

After researching I bought a ZUGU Ultra Slim Protective Cover for my iPad Pro.

So far I am really happy with switching to this cover from the Otterbox. As a digital artist and illustrator who uses the iPad Pro on a daily basis.
